Candle Making 101

Candle making can be a lot of fun. Cutesy Crafts did a bang up job in this video showing how to make diy candles for fun. It's definitely worth the watch.

For us, candle-making all began with a need to create a safer, non-toxic environment for our youngest son. We found out the hard way paraffin wax was a trigger for his allergies and being avid candle connoisseurs, we had to find a safe way to enjoy them. After much research, we found soy candles to be our best option. He didn’t have any trouble with the wax or cotton wicks. However, we wanted more control over what we brought into our home and thus started making candles much like the lady in Cutesy Crafts. We bought a kit and went from there.

By 2012 we had a lot of requests for our candles. We had started to give them as gifts on holidays and birthdays, etc. We found our candles had a little certain “umph” to them and our family and friends gave us a lot of encouragement to brand our candles and start a small business. Blue Diamond Aromas was born. We focused on selling all-natural soy candles with no toxins. We did well.

However, after 3 years of building a successful brand and place in our community, my health took a turn for the worst and we were forced to close the doors. Our little project had to take a pause while we concentrated on raising our kids and dealing with health issues beyond our control. Now here we are… post-COVID, post-empty nest syndrome, post-health issues!!! Trent & I are so happy to be opening the BDA doors once more! We’ve found a lot has changed in the candle-making community. We’ve spent quite a bit of time researching the best materials, fragrances, and essential oils to work with. Our finished product has really delighted us. We hope you enjoy it too! 😁
